LOVING GOD!

Did not He honor the Pea-Cock's feather
         On the ruby-decked diadem?
Did not He keep the flute of reed
         On his flowery lips?
Did not He wear the garland of pethy plant's leaf
On a par with the matchless diamond?
Did not He wear the jelly-spun cloth
          On His azure body divine?
What forbids with loving devotion
          The master to serve?
Caste or Creed, pelf or position
Are not matters to nerve!

LET ME CHANT... O! GOD!

Let me chant thy name forever and ever
Lest the pang preceding death
Should Choke the throat
And forbid me from singing thy Praise!

As a bird is kept in a golden Cage
    Inside a happy house
To sing notes so sweet
So! My Lord! Let my soul be put in the cage
Of Thy Lotus feet
To seek the honey of Thy Name so sweet!

Seated in the lap of the Mountain's Daughter,
Sucking the breast-milk in childish eager,
Trying to play with the other bubble
Finding the snake for the bubble
Takes it for a Lotus-stem
That Lord with an Elephant's head; to Him
I pray as my sire
To grant me my heart's desire!
